Written By: Avalon Ainsley

A pillar in Portland’s EDM community, Barisone is a humble king serving up a banquet of get down n feel good music. With roots in hip hop and inspirations from across the board, his sets never have a dull moment. They are sexy and playful… they are dirty beautiful… above all, they just straight up G.  With the power of the pied piper Barisone will fill the dance floor and take you on a musical adventure unlike any other. Like being a puppet on strings being played by a master puppeteer it’s impossible not to dance and have fun at his shows. His sets are consistently fresh and surprising. He’ll throw you your favorites then open your ears to things you’ve never heard of, but can’t wait to hear again, while incorporating his own loops, layers, and pure Barisone magic. WTF?! Artist Highlight – Cashmere Cat

Since 2012 when Cashmere Cat released his debut EP, Mirror Maru, on Pelican Fly Records, this 25 year old Norwegian producer has been making tidal waves across the globe with his unique take on hip-hop, r&b, and rap.  Having done remixes for Alana Del Rey, Miguel, 2 Chainz, and BenZel, Cashmere Cat has gained support from artists such as Diplo, Hudson Mohawke, Sinden, and just about every local DJ involved in the bass music scene.   Last year at Symbiosis Gathering, Cashmere Cat definitely stole the spotlight of the Cove stage with his high energy set that consisted of really groovy, clean, danceable original material, remixes of some of todays and yesterdays top 40 r&b tracks, and then some super crunk underground rap mixed in as well.  Cashmere Cat is going to be sure to come with some next level vibes in just a few weeks at WTF?!, so be sure you’ve got your swimsuit on and you’re ready to turn up when he hits the stage.

Below are a few soundcloud favorites produced by Cashmere Cat.  Enjoy!

WHAT THE FESTIVAL?!

Artist Highlight – Animal Laughter

Kissimmee, Florida, is a place that I have heard of, a place I have passed through while riding the Amtrak from Tampa to Orlando many times, a place I have heard stories of, and also a place that sits in my head as an economically broken and beaten southern city that has very little left to offer. Or, that’s what I thought until I recently heard the beautiful and intriguing bass music of Animal Laughter.  With a style that would sit nicely on the West Coast, Animal Laughter is coming with a very smooth, sexy, 808 driven sound that you can play in any setting.  I can imagine hearing his tunes in a club setting…at a nice lounge style lunch restaurant on the beach…on one of my favorite mix cd’s on a long road trip…this cat is really versatile.  The two tracks that stick out to me the most are his Color Motion tunes (the original mix and 808 edit).  These are just downright sexy tunes meant for a bedroom.  The 808 edit of Color Motion has got that new juke bassline and you guessed it, that 808 drum kit that just smacks! I don’t have too much more to say about Animal Laughter, except you should definitely show some love for the Florida resident who is bringing positivity back to his town, and stay tuned for more coming from this youngin’.
