Ganjaology Presents: Pussy Brunch – Chronic Kitty [MIXTAPE]

If you aren’t already familiar with the infamous ladies of Pussy Brunch, you’re in for a wild ride. This pair of bad girls take bedroom beats to a whole new level. We had the pleasure of kicking it with them during their set at What The Festival last month. It was ridiculously fun dancing to their stellar sound, and so – we decided to do a mixtape!

Hailing from the Labia Majora, Pussy Brunch’s Teagan Thais and Lauren Clayton are holding it down for the real hood. Their space crunkin’, booty whomp knockin’, bacon beats, are served along with a healthy side of turnt-up toast & twerky jerky. Their hand crafted blends of hyphy & thump chronic smackers, move through the speakers & stimulate your feelers. Bring extra panties caus’ their pu$$ypoppin beats will leave ya dripping to top off the cream in your coffee.

Peep the mix below, and please note: This is a PARENTAL ADVISORY release. Haha, seriously though. It’s good. It’s fucking good. So go ahead, prep those drawls and turn up that appetite for…

Bass Coast 6 MUTINY – Lineup Revealed!!

The Basscoast Mutiny lineup has been revealed, and as expected, it’s stacked with an impressive array of musical talent. For the past three years the Ganjaology team has adventured north into the Canadian wilderness to share in one of the highest vibes parties this side of the Kootenays… and you better believe we’re gearing up for another round!

Year after year the Bass Coast Project continues to amaze, enliven and inspire. Once again, this year The Bass Coast Girls (organizers Andrea Graham and Liz Thomson) have outdone themselves. Performances for this year’s bush session include Addison Groove, Tribe Called Red, Bogl, Cure, D Bridge, Danny Corn, G Jones, J.F. Killah, Kir Mokem, Mat The Alien, Max Ulis, Natasha Kmeto, Nick Wisdom, Philthkids, Self Evident, Sweater Beats, Tank Gyal, Librarian, and Yan Zombie among others!! We’ve listed music from many of the musicians below.

Listen to the sounds and imagine yourself in the forest, the beats filling your auditory field. Notice how you feel as these frequencies are filtered through your receiving centers. Are you inspired? Does the music make you move, make you bow your head and hum… Do these sounds suggest to you love or lust, laughter or longing? Are you sick with excitement?

Whatever the case, our physicians here at Ganjaology Institute prescribe one fat dose of BC trees combined with all manner of creation from raw to refined (super pun here, please smirk responsibly). Coincidentally you can get all this at Bass Coast. Do your body a favor and get up to Merritt, BC this August for Bass Coast 6 Mutiny!

Circula – Deep Data

Ganjaology, Circula

At times I find myself overwhelmed with all the swirling symbols that seem to dictate the movement of the world around me. This language, these numbers. The repetition of bass followed by snare, followed by bass, and again followed by a snare until ultimately it breaks with a crash!

It’s times like these that I find myself immersing in sound. There is great power listening. This ability to find freedom and relaxation through meditating with music has become an important part of my life, and I feel that those reading will probably agree.

The sample that UK soundsystem music creator Circula uses on this track speaks directly to this point. The infamous MF Doom can be heard saying…

You can hear it when you meditate in deep data… It’s the BEAT!

This beat is the rhythm of the universe. It’s the heart, the brain, and the breath. It’s what drives us to collect and create. This beat is the data with which we imagine. We are all attracted to rhythm in one form or fashion. We only differ in how we choose to tune our dials.

After you listen to Deep Data, check out the other tunes from Circula. This is easily some of the headiest garage / 2 step / techno (or whatever you want to call it) that I’ve heard.

Turn up and tune in!

This UK native Circula aka Alfie Brooks resides in limbo between Berlin and Totnes. His loyalties lie with GroundVibes Collective. Check them out here.

Jim-E Stack – Is It Me (J. Hanna Bootleg)

Ganjaology, Jim-E Stack, J. Hanna, Bootleg

Cleveland native J. Hanna has stolen the show with this one. Not only has he effectively bootlegged this sultry tune from NYC based producer Jim-E Stack, but he’s done it with such imagination and vigor that I question whether he should even fess up. I guess, like with any bootleg, you have to give it up to the original… but seriously, J. Hanna comes with a crushing remix of what was already a super hype tune. Be sure to stay tuned for new music from both J. Hanna and Jim-E Stack.

Big up fellas!!

SaQi – At Quest’s End

SaQi, Jumpsuit Records, Ganjaology

While many of us continue to question our place, our potential and ultimately our purpose… there are some that simply know. This is certainly the case with California’s freshest new producer, Saqi. As the newest addition to The Polish Ambassador’s emerging label Jumpsuit Records, SaQi is poised for success in a space that he has long called home.

His recently released album At Quest’s End is an inspiring look into the life and frequency of Luke Solman, better know as SaQi. The album features eleven beautifully crafted tunes featuring a number of collaborating producers including The Human Experience, Wildlight, The Polish Ambassador, Worth, KMLN & Santino Rice, and Leah Song of Rising Appalachia.

Drawing his name from the Sufi title for a mystic muse, SaQi’s productions find balance in the space between organic and electronic. These dance inspired rhythms combine musical elements from a wide array of cultures from across the planet, mixing them into magnificent arrangements of pulse and sound. It is obvious that this trumpet toting musical traveler has indeed traversed the globe many times. Here, with At Quest’s End, we see a dynamic representation of a man and his experience elegantly blended into a story told through sonic frequency.

SaQi will join the Polish Ambassador next year for the Jumpsuit Records spring tour. For SaQi, one quest has ended and another is beginning. Where are you on your journey?

People Music presents… Brenmar // Self Evident // NovaTRON vs. Shapey // H$H – Tonight at Lofi

Ganjaology, Brenmar, Lofi

Tonight in Seattle, People Music is hosting an exciting showcase of smashing electronic musicians to mash up the dance floor. At the top of the bill is Chicago raised, Brooklyn based producer Brenmar. Known for his unique sound, Brenmar intertwines popular R&B hooks with chicago style juke, UK bass, and a his own NYC club crusher style. Next up is one of our favorites out of Vancouver.  Self Evident is known not for any specific style, but rather for his impressive display of mixing multi-genre sets which are as deep as they are alive. Both of these heavy hitters, will be performing for the first time in Seattle tonight. Don’t miss it!

Also, be sure to get there early to catch the superb local talent which will be supporting.  We have novaTRON vs. DJ Shapeshifter on a dual set, as well as H$H (DJ’s Domino MF and Bobbi Rich). The event, which will be held at Lofi in Seattle, will be turned up with custom sound by Starbourne!

Looking forward to seeing you all out at Lofi tonight!!

FrumLater – Live at The Living Room :: Shambhala 2012

FrumLater, Shambhala, Ganjaology

Here’s a nice heady dance mix for ya… Caught this set by FrumLater last year on the Living Room Stage at Shambhala Music Festival in Salmo, BC. He was filling for someone. Someone awesome, which is why I was there. But honestly, I don’t remember who that was now. I do know that this man waxed the dance floor that evening. DAMN.

Catch him at Shambhala again this year. See you there!

LIMB LFTR – Boombahton

Seattle’s, LIMB LFTR, is coming with some super funky moombahton for ya today!   This track is really weird…in a good way…like Portland weird.  It’s strange, but it all makes sense.  I’m really digging the digital vibe Boombahton carries with it’s high pitched bleeps and bloops, while at the same time allowing a little tribal energy to shine through with the bongos and congas.   I can see myself in a far away futuristic metal moombahton jungle on some far away planet in some unknown galaxy when I listen to Boombahton.  Enjoy!

DJ Cure – Dub Selekta Podcast & Ganjaology Exclusive Interview [Residual Frequencies from Bass Coast 2012]

Many ancient cultures used rhythm and dance to draw out the negative energies that cause illness. The once great shaman figure which appeared in every tribe often doubled as a musician. The sound of the drum reminds us of the universal heart beat. The rattle reminds us of our breath.  Moving the body in sync with the energies of the cosmic sound provides all the healing necessary for a life of health and positivity, full of abundance and free of illness.

Today, there is a movement in which the shamanic energies are awakening, but not in the way that many would expect. Rather than using the traditional tools, these modern day mystics are spreading sound as their potion, rhythm as their antidote, and bass as their blessing.

Here we have an awesome example of the healing power of music. DJ Cure of Vancouver, BC has graced us yet again with an impressive display of talented mixing, production, and organization of some superb bass. This mix for Dub Selekta features a simply stunning array of production artists, many of whom have worked with DJ Cure’s own Aufect Recordings. The multi-tempo mix features tracks by HxdB & Ryan Wells, Nina Kraviz, Philthkids, Justin Martin, Bassmynt, Dan Solo, Hudson Mowake and more.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with DJ Cure this August at Bass Coast where we chatted about birds, bees and bass. Though it hasn’t been posted yet, this is definitely an interview worth sharing. Who couldn’t use a little residual Bass Coast in their life. This is a gentle reminder  that this weekend marks the BCE (Bass Coast Equinox). We now begin the count down to Bass Coast 2013. Don’t miss it!

Interview with DJ Cure – Bass Coast 2012

GANJAOLOGY : This is Mickey Mars of Ganjaology, and we’re here – in the forest – with DJ Cure. Do you want to just state your name and where you’re from…

DJ CURE : Ya, DJ Cure. Repping Vancouver, Aufect Recordings and Lighta Sound.

GANJAOLOGY : We’re here at Bass Coast 2012. What’s here that you think is worth talking about?

DJ CURE : It’s totally a celebration of community. Lots of local talent as well as worldwide talent. Just all good things basically.

GANJAOLOGY : We’ve heard some excellent music. Any standout acts?

DJ CURE : I like Danny Corn’s set. Machine Drum was good. Who else? Looking forward to D-Bridge, Christian Martin was good last night too.

GANJAOLOGY : Very nice. I hear you head up a music label. Do you want to talk a little bit about that?

DJ CURE : I run Aufect Recordings… been around since 2008. Right now we’re releasing mainly future bass kinda stuff, little bit of house. But bass-centric kinda stuff. Hybrid I guess. Check us out, Aufect.com!

GANJAOLOGY : Awesome! So, what can you say about the community here at Bass Coast!

DJ CURE : Oh man… It’s like where to begin really. There’s so much talent here. Just even local stuff. This is the one party i look forward to every year. Nothing really like it. It’s a bit smaller than Shambhala or some of the other festivals around here. You get the nice tight knit vibe… lots of celebrating of great local talent too!

GANJAOLOGY : Thanks for sharing, One Love.

Big up the the man with the antidote! Thanks to DJ Cure for dropping these booty shaking, simply delicious, syrup sippin’ selections to keep us feeling good. Here’s a taste of what he was serving up at Bass Coast this past year.

For those that don’t know, Bass Coast is a magical gathering of souls that takes place along the Elaho River in Squamish, BC each August. The gathering features the brightest and the best musicians of British Columbia’s undeniable bass scene along with some superior international talent. Check the link below for more info!

Banditz and Self Help – Spine Waves EP

It is with much pleasure that I proudly announce the release of Ganjaology’s first EP, entitled…

Spine Waves EP

Featuring Ohio’s own dance floor killa – DJ Self Help – along with Orlando’s hottest young dubstep duo – Banditz – this release is sure to put some energy in your spine. Transcending genre labels, the Spine Waves EP is a unique blend of beautifully crafted electronica and bass. The project involved the development of two songs from both production teams which were then traded and remixed. This exciting platform for creation has resulted in a release that is fresh, fun and full of energy. Banditz bring the heavier, bass driven, break your back energy; while Self Help brings the lighter, uplifting, bounce ‘tuh dis vibe. Together the Spine Waves EP is a testament to the magnificent power of co-creation.

The six track EP is available for digital download from the Ganjaology Bandcamp, here. All the funds will be put back into the Ganjaology Project so that we can continue providing you with the best music we can get our hands on. Please help us to do what we love most, creating a platform for CREATIVITY, POSITIVITY, and BASS MUSIC. We appreciate the support!

And now… SPINE WAVE!

PS. When I listen to this album, I get the sense that there is electricity literally flowing through my spine. My face swells, my hands tingle, and my feet get numb. If you’ve had a similar experience with this or any other music, you might be experiencing what is called Kundalini energy. It is the energy that flows up your spine from your base or root chakra. Often this is the sensation we get when something “vibes” with us. If you think you feel me, do some research. Tap into that power. It lives within all of us. Open the door. Expand your mind. Experience Spine Waves.

Fat Freddy’s Drop – Ray Ray

Emerging from the sands of Wellington, New Zealand, Fat Freddy’s Drop roots themselves deep as musical connoisseurs.  This futuristic dub/electronic funk/jazzy/soulful masterpiece, “Ray Ray,” radiates with the raddest of rhythms suited for everybody’s infinite expression.  Wether its the beating of bass roping in your attention nodes or the breaks of laser flares inciting body grooving swerves, the simple question “what’s the world with no soul” will wrap your mind around this earful of a track.  Incase this one is new to you and you’re feeling this beat pay attention to these lines so powerfully presented.

“Tell me what’s the world with no soul?”

“The world to me, is more than evolution

More than money, more than technology

I believe, that there’s more than evolution

Like you can change your mind, but you can’t change your destiny

Blood is blood, and thicker than water

Men will die, to live forever

The race is on and I could be standing still

Cos I have faith in something more than my will”

Ben Tactic – Tremorlator (Percolator Refix)

It’s time for the Percolator.

Positive Vibes From ‘Pogo’

This post is a little bit different than most of my others. These 3 tunes below aren’t bass heavy, they’re not dark, and they don’t have any wobbles. These beautifully crafted remixes have a very unique sound. The producer Pogo a.k.a. Nick Bertke takes sound clips from a set movie or show, chops and tunes them to his liking, then builds funky, melodic and beautiful tunes. The best part is, it’s not only music! The videos are edited to follow along with the song. Below are three that I found to be really cool, there are MANY more on his youtube channel though.

Check out his youtube channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/Fagottron

And his website at: http://www.pogomix.net/

Enjoy these beautiful, positive songs!

Farkas – “Tribal Dance”

Biggin up the Swedish producer Farkas on this one. There isn’t an actual date for the release yet but it has been set to release sometime in 2012 on Biscuit Factory. This one’s quite the ravey tune, with its four to the floor vibe. Tribal Dance has been getting plays from a lot of the UK dubstep DJs and I’m sure will be getting plays by all once it becomes available. Blast this one out your speakers and get yaself movin’!

Scion A/V Presents: Skream & Benga

Wooooo! Well if it isn’t the two dubstep dons at it again with a nice quick release for all to hear. This 5 track sampler is available for early free download currently at http://preemtiv.com/widgets/skream-benga/

I chose to share two of the five with you friends, because these two… they’re just amazing. First up is benga’s Electro West.

I have been waiting for this damn track to be released for quite a while now. Every time I see videos of Benga he’s dropped this, everytime i’ve seen him live he’s mixed it in, they even teased us with it in the magnetic man essential mix.  Now, finally its here and I honestly can’t wait to mix this one in myself.

Second Is Skream’s Phat Head. Skream never ceases to amaze me. The way he creates these loopy songs that instantaneously evoke motion is unlike anyone else. This ones definitely a head bobber and drops nicely with the fat Skream synths.

Watertonic – Super Cake

So…I walk into the kitchen to go get a slice of 2 day old birthday cake (shouts out to myself!), cut it, take a bite of it, and head back into my office.  Without looking at what is playing or at how much cake I am devouring, I suddenly realize that my taste buds and ear drums are simultaneously on their way to heaven.  What kind of cake am I eating? Funfetti with vanilla icing and sprinkles on top.  What’s the name of the song I am listening to? SUPER CAKE! Haha…yes this really just happened.  Super Cake is the brand new track from Watertonic and it was released on SoundCloud two days ago.  This song is very minimal with an incredibly deep and slow build right in the middle of it.  Dancey and trancey is how I would sum this one up.  I love the sounds Watertonic is brining into this world so keep an eye out on Ganjaology for new tunes coming from the South American bass producer!
