2015 marks the first year Ganjaology was able to attend Colorado’s leading transformational music festival ‘Sonic Bloom’. After starting the festival with nothing but smiles, and ending the festival with more smiles and laughter, we conclude that the transition from one festival decade to the next was a success. Having had the last week to reflect on the experiences shared over the summer solstice weekend, we’ve got a handful of photos and a few words to share with you.
Sonic Bloom was held at a new location to celebrate it’s 10th year of existence. With the elevation just above 6,000ft, warm nights were not a dream, but a reality. Shade was of abundance, and the live painting zone set up within the festival grounds was one of the most beautiful and thought invoking places of The Bloom. Now-a-days it seems as if live painting is quite common at festivals, however the attention, care, and detail of the artists chosen to display their work was (literally) world class. With well over 20 live painters and visionary artists in attendance at Sonic Bloom, the ingenuity of this festival was comparable to none.

It’s easy for a music festival to have a main focus and one main focus only. Music. What’s difficult, is to host a music festival which engages participants through active workshops, visual arts, learning experiences, positivity, and music equally. This is the exact feat that Sonic Bloom can say they’ve accomplished during their 10th year on “Festival Earth”. From yoga classes, to rock balancing seminars, to motivational speakers, all the way to YOU, there were teachers and students of all ages and backgrounds sharing happiness, knowledge, and new experiences with one another.
Sustainability is a main focus of Sonic Bloom and they are doing a great job of being a leader in ‘Leave No Trace’ events. Get ready for this…All of the electricity used at Sonic Bloom was offset with 100% solar power from SunPort! That is the type of positive action that festivals world wide need to pay attention to. All participants are encouraged to carpool to the event, re-use materials as much as possible, and compost, recycle, and dispose of trash in separate labeled receptacles. All of the food vendors were locals from the region and many carts featured organic and/or vegetarian options. Sonic Bloom had their Green team working hard at all times and the cleanliness of the festival reflected that in a beautiful way.

10 years is a long time to host a festival… It seems it was just long enough to get the perfect musical lineup in order for the decade anniversary. Sonic Bloom brought out STS9, Talib Kweli, Thriftworks, Kalya Scintilla, Bluetech, Random Rab, Emancipator, Andreilien, Templo, Jpod The Beat Chief, Caspa, Russ Liquid, The Desert Dwellers, Kaminanda, and Ill-Esha, just to name off a few favorites… With a lineup as eclectic and intelligent as that, you could host a festival in the middle of the desert with no shade and people would still come and have a great time. Sonic Bloom didn’t do that. Jamie Janover and his experienced team of builders, connectors, fun conspirators, artists, motivators, and everyone in between, came together and worked extra hard to bring you the highest quality party the Rocky Mountains will see this summer.
BIG THANKS GOES OUT TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!

While you wait for the gates to open…Enjoy a few of our favorites from a couple of this years Sonic Bloom artists!
Sonic Bloom is bringing one of Colorado’s own (and one of our personal favorites) to their incredible festival this year. Cualli has been steadily releasing music since 2010, and with his recent arrival back home from a three month excursion in Costa Rica, he will be bringing a fresh new energy and strictly positive vibes to Humming Bird Ranch.
From his engaging live performances featuring himself, a computer, and several live instruments… To his insanely creative production that feature recordings from his trips around the world, live instrumentation, and software production… Cualli has proven time and time again that music is not only his passion, but his way of speaking to the people and Mother Earth.
“To make a change in the world we must make a change in ourselves. To heal the soul of the Earth we must heal the souls in ourselves. We are one with the Earth. We are one with the cosmos. I give thanks for the opportunity to play a part in this time here on Earth. I give thanks for the opportunity to connect through music. I give thanks for life.” – Cualli
Since my first introduction to Cualli back in 2012, at Envision, I have had the pleasure of watching his music spread throughout the conscious music network of the world in a truly loving way. I’m excited for more projects to come from this talented Colorado native and really stoked for his performance at Sonic Bloom 2015!
